Over the life of the existing wind farm, significant support has been provided to the local community. Given the number of different operators, it is not possible to provide a total figure.
So far, up until the end of 2024, between Burgar Hill Renewables Limited and Thrive Renewables plc, over £120,000 has been invested in the local community, predominantly through funds provided directly to the Evie & Rendall Community Council, but also providing funding to facilitate local energy efficiency projects across Orkney and supporting local charities such as THAW Orkney in reducing fuel poverty.
Burgar Hill Energy is committed to delivering support to the local community. Based on the proposed capacity of 30MW, it is expected that there will be a fund of approximately £150k per year to support the local community.
We have some ideas about how this can be used locally, but we would love to hear from you about what you think this could deliver for Evie, Rendall or the rest of Orkney!
We have provided a form below where you can provide feedback on how you think this money could be best used to support Orcadians. Please consider how we would be best able to use this fund, and provide us with your suggestions.
Annual funding support has been provided to the Evie & Rendall Community Council over the years that the wind farm has been in operation.
Donations have been provided to local charities in Orkney who do amazing work to support reduction in fuel poverty in Orkney, or otherwise assist disadvantaged local community members. In addition, multiple local projects have received funding to install energy efficient equipment in community facilities.
Where possible, local suppliers have been used to support construction and ongoing maintenance of the wind farm.
